The smartphone rumour mill was in full swing anticipating the launch of the OnePlus 9 series but the OnePlus Nord 2 has popped up and taken some of the spotlight away from the launch.
The successor to the OnePlus Nord is rumored to be launched in the second quarter of 2021 and it could become the first OnePlus smartphone to come without a Qualcomm chipset.
The OnePlus 9 series is expected to launch in the coming weeks and the company is already teasing an announcement on March 8. The specs and designs of OnePlus 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Lite have already been leaked and the only thing left is for the devices to be officially launched. However, even before the official launch of the OnePlus 9 series, the focus has slightly shifted to the OnePlus Nord 2.
OnePlus Nord 2 to come with Dimensity 1200 processor in Q2 of 2021
Recent reports have revealed that the OnePlus Nord 2 is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2021. Moreover, a few key specs have also been leaked, including the smartphone featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. The 5G-supported chipset is built on a 6nm fabrication, with the octa-core CPU featuring a Cortex A78 core that clocks in at 3.0GHz, three performance cores that run at 2.6GHz, and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores that clock in at 2.0GHz. The processor is complemented by the Mali-G77 GPU and up to 16GB of RAM.
The chipset is capable of supporting up to a 200MP camera or dual cameras of 32MP and 16MP respectively with features such as five-core HDR-ISP and 4K UHD HDR video recording. It is also capable of supporting Full HD+ resolutions at up to 168Hz display rate. The presence of MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 will only add to the fun of using Nord 2 as you’ll get a boosted touch response with better graphics.
Nord 2 could be the first OnePlus phone to not feature a Qualcomm chipset
It is certainly surprising to see that OnePlus could be releasing its first smartphone that doesn’t come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. The OnePlus Nord 2 will come with a Dimensity 1200 chipset unlike its predecessor, which also featured a Snapdragon line of chipsets.
The smartphone is rumored to launch between April and June. The predecessor was launched in July and there is a strong possibility that the Nord 2 could also be launched around the same time. Although OnePlus is focused on the launch of OnePlus 9 series for now, more information about the Nord 2 is expected to come out in the near future.
