Government releases 7 free tools to protect your Android phones, PC from ‘new virus’

The government has released a few free tools to protect digital devices from viruses. As a part of ‘Cyber Swachhata Kendra’ or Botnet Cleaning and Malware Analysis Centre, seven effective tools are being released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology or MeitY. 

The free tools will protect all digital devices most commonly including PCs and smartphones. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In have partnered with Quick Heal, eScan among others to effectively operate the tools.

Individuals can choose which of these seven tools they want to use according to their convenience. It is important to be aware of the viruses that can affect the efficiency of digital devices. Botnets are one such instance. A botnet is a group of devices that have been infected, which are connected, coordinated, and controlled by hackers to perform a malicious task such as stealing data, sending spam, gaining unauthorized access, carry out DDoS attacks, etc. Here are the seven tools that one can use to protect digital devices from viruses.

Quick Heal Free Bot Removal Tool 

The Quick Heal free bot removal tool is for Microsoft Windows PCs. This is a free bot removal tool that will help protect the PC. Cybersecurity firm Quick Heal is providing this free tool along with CERT-In.

AppSamvid 

The AppSamvid is a tool that will protect your PC’s operating system. AppSamvid is a desktop-based app that will allow executing only the pre-approved sets of executable files. The app whitelists solutions for Windows operating systems. 

USB Pratirodh 

USB Pratirodh is another tool that can control the usage of removable storage media such as external hard drives, cell phones, pen drives, and other devices supported by USB mass storage.

Free bot removal tool by eScan Antivirus

This free bot removal tool is being provided by eScan Antivirus which is very helpful for Windows PCs.  

eScanAV CERT-In Toolkit

The eScanAV CERT-In Toolkit is a free tool for Android phones. This tool can be used to protect against viruses that can affect the efficiency of your phone.

Browser JSGuard for Google Chrome

Browser JSGuard is for people who use Google chrome. The Browser JSGuard is another effective free tool to protect against viruses.

Browser JSGuard for Firefox

For people who use the Firefox web browser Browser JSGuard is the tool. This tool helps to defend malicious HTML attacks and JavaScript attacks that are made through the web browser based on Heuristics. It also notifies the user if visiting any malicious web pages. It also provides a detailed analysis of the threats regarding the visited web page.
