- Xiaomi teased K40 to be launched in February this year and there is a chance that the other K40 phone would be powered by Snapdragon 888 SoC
The latest rumour posted by Xiaomi product director Wang Teng Thomas on Chinese certification website Weibo suggests that the much-awaited Redmi K40 series will be backed by the Snapdragon 888 chipset and would appear as more than one smartphone variant.
It is to be noted that the company’s executive did not mention any name of the device and in just a rumour. But, some time ago, Xiaomi teased K40 to be launched in February this year and there is a chance that the other K40 phone would be powered by the same processor.
The accurate date of the launch is yet to be announced by the company. In a reply to Redmi general manager Lu Weibing’s post on Weibo, Thomas clearly mentioned that more than one phone would be launched backed by Snapdragon 888 chipset. As of now, there are no details about the phones available on Weibo, but it did appear with the hashtag ‘K40’ that implies that the product director was hinting towards the Redmi K40 series device.
Last week, Xiaomi’s GM assured that the phone will be available in the coming month coupled with the processor mentioned above and it will carry a price tag of CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 34,000). According to the company executive, the price range would offer the tagline of the most affordable powerful smartphone backed by a Snapdragon 880 processor.
For the past few months, this phone has gone through several listings, rumours, and leaks that also claimed to support 33W smart charging. Rumours also surfaced that Redmi K40 would be furnished with a hole-punch cut out for the selfie instead of a pop-up design.
