Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 processor with Spectra 250L ISP technology launched

Snapdragon 678 comes with Qualcomm Kryo 460 CPU core and Qualcomm’s Adreno 612 GPU.

Qualcomm announced in a blog post about the launch of its new processor– Qualcomm Snapdragon 678. The new processor that comes with improvements is the follow-up to the Snapdragon 675 that launched in October 2018.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 is an octa-core processor that is based on an 11nm process. Smartphones with this processor will experience greater performance, better photo-video quality and much more.

“We are uniquely positioned to support OEMs in delivering the next generation of devices with in-demand features and performance,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, in the blog.

The processor is developed keeping in mind the mid-range. It is equipped with Qualcomm’s own Spectra 250L ISP technology.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 is powered with Kyro 460 CPU which gives it a clock speed of up to 2.2Ghz, this makes it better than its predecessor.  Snapdragon 678 is equipped with Adreno 612 GPU graphic support, just similar Snapdragon 675. “Drive faster graphics rendering, allowing for sharp, life-like visuals at high frame rates with fewer frame drops,” Qualcomm says commenting on it.

Snapdragon 678’s supported displays come with full-HD+ (1,080×2,520 pixels) resolution with up to 10-bit colour depth. If connected to an external display, the processor can support up to 4K Ultra HD resolution. With its Qualcomm Spectra 250L image signal processor, the SoC is capable of handling dual-camera setups up to 16-megapixel and single cameras up to 48-megapixel. It can also record 4K video at 30fps, 1080p video at up to 120fps, and 720p video at up to 240fps.

Coming to Qualcomm Snapdragon 678’s connectivity – it comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem. This can deliver a peak download speed of 600Mbps and upload speed of 150Mbps. The processor supports dual-SIM Dual VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS, and SBAS.

One also gets USB 3.1 support with USB Type-C interface and support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology. For the audio Snapdragon 678 comes with Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus technology, Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology, and Qualcomm aptX audio technology.
