ByteDance, TikTok’s owner, announced its first consumer gadget — Smart Tutoring Lamp T5 — under its new venture Dali Education on October 29, 2020.
The Beijing-based multinational has seen a downfall in the market after TikTok, a short video app, was banned in India over security issues. This ended causing the app to lose almost 31% of its total downloads. The decision to enter the business of hardware manufacturing is being looked at as an effort to bounce back.
Dali Smart Tutoring Lamp T5 is a desk lamp, which comes with a touchscreen display, dual camera and a built-in voice assistant. The Smart Lamp is equipped with Artificial Intelligence technology and a built-in digital assistant that will help in searching for words, English follow-up reading, and mathematical calculations. ByteDance claims that this device will help cultivate good academic leanings and habits.
The smart lamp can be paired with a smartphone using the Dali Ai Tutoring App that can help parents keep a check on their children studying and can also participate in the process of learning remotely. With the help of ‘Daily Love Tutoring’ app, parents can plan their children’s homework and synchronised the completion progress through the lamp in real-time. This will help parents to look at the progress remotely. Children can also take a photo of the completed homework and upload it in the device as proof, which can be monitored with the app paired with Smart lamp.
The dual-camera with a video connection feature and integrated display with touchscreen help in real-time communication between parents and children.
The company claims that it is a shadowless lamp that comes with 28 lamp beads and double wing lamp holder to provide better performance as it does not cause flickering and dimming vision. The smart lamp comes with illumination blue light that puts less stress on eyes.
The Dali Smart Tutoring Lamp T5 has been certified as a National AA-Level Professional Eye Protection Lamp, National CQC Citification and, TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification.
Dali Smart Tutoring Lamp is on sale in China and is priced at 799 Yuan (approximately Rs 8,900). ByteDance, with the help of Dali, is now all set to expand its business in the education sector. The company also has a website under the name Gogokid, where Chinese kids get trained in leaning and speaking English. The website has seen major success in the country.
